David Hume - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "Both Russell (1946) and Kolakowski, (1968) saw Hume as a positivist holding the view that true knowledge derives only from the experience of events, from ‘impressions on the senses’ or (later) from ‘sense data’ and that knowledge otherwise obtained was ‘meaningless’. Einstein (1915) wrote that he was inspired by Hume's positivism when formulating his Special Theory of Relativity."
